Puppies
Our next litter of puppies is in the works for Summer 2008. The goal of this litter will be to produce outstanding family companions. We will be aiming for calm, easy going puppies with a strong retrieving drive.
Please contact us for more information.
RECENT LITTERS.
Stella has been bred to Guiding Eyes for the Blind Mark
The goal of this litter is to produce dogs that will be suited for work as Assistance Dogs. Mark was chosen as the stud because he is confidant around loud noises and he does not have any underfoot sensitivity. See Assistance Dogs (need a page for the link) for more information.
Puppies born on December 1, 2007: 7 Puppies: 4 Black Females, 1 Yellow Female and 2 Yellow Males. This litter of puppies wwas donated to Susquehanna Service Dogs. They all passed a temperament test, were deemed good service dog candidates and were accepted into the program.
Each litter of puppies at Susquehanna Service Dogs has a theme. The theme for this litter is "The Small Wonders" as these puppies are all going to be "short and stout".

Warm and Furry News From the Wintry North Country...December 1st, 2007.
All is good in the world as we sit here waiting for the forecasted 8 to 12 inches of snow to start falling. The wood boxes are full, the pantry is amply supplied and we have seven new puppies to announce to our friends and family out there. Stella, first mother of the newly created "Teapot Labrador" lines, brought this wild bunch into the world on Saturday (12/1), beginning at 2 pm and finishing (in an exhausted heap) at 10 pm. All in all, Stella was a champ. She started as many first timers do; thinking she had to take the mother of all dumps, desiring to do the right thing and get outside (temps in the teens and dropping) finally succumbing to nature and dropping something big right there in the box, trying to reconcile her crazy owners making such a fuss over what she still believes is the bowel movement from hell and then being completely blown away as said alleged b.m. commences to wail and wriggle around. Stella did just what I would do in those situations when life scares the puppy right out of you, she hid behind Cindy. Surely and steadily though, as the whelp wore on, she became a mom right before our eyes. Puppy #2 was born outside (good catch, Cindy) and Stella seemed to have made peace with the fact her poops were now animate objects. Back in the warmth of the box, she slowly investigated and then did what all Labs (and some humans we know) do when they encounter something unknown, intriguingly smelly and just a bit slimy...yup, she licked it. She must have liked the flavor of this lil' black female as she continued on enthusiastically tasting, I mean, cleaning up this pup. She also allowed #2 pup to nurse (albeit with a solid burst of courage from the leftovers of Brother Dan's world's greatest grilled turkey). From that point on it was a waiting game and with an average of one an hour Stella brought more talking poops (sorry last potty joke) into the box. She never got to the point of opening the sac herself but she did give them all a good lick start and then settled down to let her expanding brood nurse from her ample bosoms. The evening closed down with seven alive and well pups sleeping next to their exhausted milk maid of a mom, Stella Bo Bella (or Stella No (More) Belly, or Stella's So Smelly or Stella Whoa Nellie (seven is plenty)).
Cindy took the first night as lifeguard of the box and woke with a good story...she was lying there, finally sleeping and dreaming of talking poops (okay so I have a problem, another one) when she was pulled from her slumber by the sound of seven puppies making the universal noise of anticipation/frustration (please show us your teets!). She dragged herself upright, flipped on the flashlight and saw a silly sight; Stella flat on her back, dead to the world asleep with all of her spigots pointed skyward and seven puppies lined up, bumping into her side trying figure out, where's the on switch on this thing, it was working a few minutes ago. Cindy came to her senses and came to the rescue, convincing Stella to open the (te-te) bar for one last call.
There's all the news worth reporting. In the time it took to write this, the temperature has dropped a few more degrees and the snow has begun falling. Stella is in the box, snoring away with the pups cooing away as they nurse. If anyone cares to visit over the next seven weeks, give a shout and we will check the schedule.
